Arion 298

Silver Spring, MD

Founded May 23, 1961 by Penny Manuel

The Daughters of Penelope Arion Chapter #298 began as a dream of Founder Penny Manuel in early 1961. At the time, Penny was District Lt. Governor and envisioned forming a DOP chapter in the Silver Spring, Maryland area. She worked in conjunction with a new-found acquaintance, Mary Triantis, whom she met at an AHEPA dance. They gathered their friends and together they had enough women and interest to see their dream of a DOP Chapter in Silver Spring, Maryland come to fruition. With the help of sisters from the Hermione Chapter of Washington, DC on May 23, 1961, twelve (12) new sisters were initiated into the Daughters of Penelope. Thus began Arion Chapter #298!

Fundraising and donating to needy charities began immediately. Bake sales and annual fashion shows allowed the Chapter to provide generously to several worthwhile organizations.

Arion Chapter #298 is a thriving group of women that continues to grow in membership. With almost seventy (70) members, the Arion chapter works diligently to provide assistance to many charities and to make a difference to those in need in our communities. We proudly support our District and National projects and are extremely proud to be able to continue our charitable efforts where needed.
